My Students

In a world filled with more obstacles than open doors, my students come to school each day filled with anticipation and an unmatched excitement for learning. They inspire me on a daily basis and I am so blessed to work with them each and every day. I teach a group of 22 English Language Learner kindergartners. They come from homes where English may not be the primary language spoken in the home. Our district services four surrounding Native American Reservations, and many of my students live nearly 1.5 hours away from the school and live in poverty.

They don't let those obstacles define them, and I refuse to let the obstacles stand in the way of them getting the best education possible

My kindergartners are my entire world, and my job as there teacher is not just to teach them, but to love them and show them that if they fight for their dreams, their dreams will fight for them.

My Project

Play is essential to all young children. It develops critical social and emotional skills, language development, and self control; among other skills. Research has shown us time and time again that children in early childhood learn best through play, but play is the one thing missing from nearly 85% of all early childhood classrooms. Why?

I want my students to grow and learn in the most appropriate and developmental way possible, and that's where play in kindergarten comes in.

Play will allow them to achieve this goal. I am requesting materials that may be toys; materials like career costumes that may be dress up to them but will allow them to see themselves in the future. Items like dolls and trucks or cash registers and a pretend vet center...these are all toys that will allow them to develop those social skills and language skills while still letting them just be kids and play.

Please help me to bring PLAY back into KINDERGARTEN; where it never should have left; and allow my students to be kids for as long as they can be.
