My Students

Public schools across the country have faced severe cuts in arts programs for many years. Our students are lucky to have a performing arts focus in addition to their academic studies.

Developing individual interests, choosing music of personal interest to study, and joining together to play music with and for friends are important steps in developing a lifelong enriching music hobby.

Our school incorporates the performing arts across the curriculum. This project helps us expand our Rock Band Club for the new school year. Little Kids Rock, Fender Music Foundation, and Donors Choose have helped us build our students' Rock Band Club during lunch and after school. We offer the opportunity for students of beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels to develop their knowledge and skills from wherever they are toward wherever they want to be. Students with no experience can begin from step one. Those with some ability can learn more and join together with others to perform. The advanced can develop producing skills through organizing public productions and earn community service by mentoring beginners.

My Project

After upgrading and expanding this fall, we now have one pretty good band practice space, and we have also set up a half-decent second space that's getting better. Many times more than one group would like to practice at the same time. This project would enable us to better support students to join together, create their own bands, practice for performance, and record their original compositions. The guitar/keyboard pedal will help us take full advantage of our new Leslie amp. Likewise, the drum pedal is an upgrade to the pedal that came with the drum kit. The other small cables and cleaners are for hooking everything together and keeping it running smoothly.

This may not seem like a very exciting set of gear to represent any teacher's dream, but it is exciting that we've been able to upgrade our students' practice space and begin setting up a second this fall. Our students are playing more, playing better, and more people are involved this year than ever before. Thank you!
