My Project
If you didn't know, schools are having a hard time maintaining custodial staff these past few years. Our school is no exception. As I arrive each morning to school, I am surprised when my room has not been vacuumed. Custodial staff is limited at our school. We only get our rooms vacuumed twice a week. I am constantly asking for students to pick up pieces of bark or other debris each night before they say good-bye to me. They are like little vacuum cleaners themselves. But, wouldn't it be cool if we were able to come in each morning to a fully vacuumed room?
Many of my teaching partners are busy first thing in the morning with small vacuums they have stowed away.
They take extra time each morning to clean their carpets. I envy those clean carpets!
If I had a Roomba Robot Vacuum, I would be able to concentrate on the day's work ahead of me each morning, instead of thinking if I should go and borrow a vacuum cleaner. A clean environment is a safe and healthy environment in which to learn. I know my students like to please me by playing the "Find 3 Pieces of Debris," game; but, maybe it's time for me to think outside of the box and find a way to have my room clean without custodial staff (or student games).
