Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students enjoy every opportunity to experience a new story that will open up a whole new world. For students with disabilities, however, learning to read may take longer, so not having a large book selection can make reading really boring. Speakaboos will offer the opportunity to continue reading

My classroom serves students with special needs, including ADHD, developmental delays, and behavioral issues.

I am a special educator at a Title I school, and my classroom budget goes quickly each year just buying basic supplies. My school is very diverse, and I have one student in my own classroom who do not speak English as a first language. My student, faces many challenges with learning to read a language that she is not familiar with. I incorporate many classroom builders as well as team builders during daily instruction so that students stay interested in reading. Over 80% of our school-wide population is on a free or reduced lunch system. In my classroom, that figure is 90%. My group of scholars are funny and sweet kids and many of them don't have access to literature in their personal lives. That's why it's so important to me and to them that they have books that they can read in their "other" life here at school.

My Project

As the days grow longer and summer gets nearer, it's time to prepare for summer reading. Speakaboos, the common-core aligned digital storybooks, will be a welcomed of fresh summer air to my classroom. Speakaboos digital interaction picture books will help my struggling readers build and take apart words and word families, it allows for a great opportunity to teach a variety of mechanics in writing, and using text and characters from these books in word/story problems will surely make math even more fun for my students. We need these interactive books! The possibilities are endless! The awesome part of Speakaboos is that the classic stories can be read at different levels of independence, and they are great for differentiated reading, too. Each story comes to life with educational worksheets, activities, and games. Speakaboos timeless tales are ideal for my scholars on the path to college.

Your donations could really help change the educational paths for many of my students.

Most of my students don't even have books at home, and the books we have in our school are often not accessible for them to read on their own. Since we have mostly typically-developing students in our school-wide population, we run short on just-right books for our lower-level learners. Reading books like those on the website would really be the turning point to get some kids jazzed about reading!
