This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a 2nd grade special education classroom and we are full of love and charismatic personalities! My students laugh, play, care and give to one another with every moment that they can. They enjoy coming to school and are very enthusiastic to learn and make them a better person each day. However, my students face many adverse circumstances everyday. Most of my students live in shelters, city housing developments, and foster care. Within living in these types of urban communities, most of my children come to school hungry, without proper sized clothing or school supplies. Additionally, there is low parental involvement.
My students are resilient to the adversity that they face every second of their lives.
They come to school with loving arms, and willing to learn something new each day. With all that happens to them emotionally, physically, and socially, my students still want to come to school and make new friends, run around the play ground, be happy and loving.
My students value community, and understand the meaning of working together. They know that working as a team, makes dreams happen and can get you further ahead in life.
My Project
In our school, we share a set of laptops between 4-5 classrooms. Each day our students are required to complete Reading and Math lessons using an online program. My school requires that my students complete a total of 100 minutes each week on these online programs. These programs on the computer speak words, sentences, paragraphs, and even entire books to the children to prepare them for independent reading without support. Since many students are completing this activity at once, the computers can become loud if all the programs are speaking at once. Thus, making the classroom very loud and distracting, especially to my students with special needs.
Therefore, these headphones will provide noise cancelling solutions for my students and allow them to learn without any distractors.
Distracting environment prohibits my students from learning and will create a larger gap in their academic goals. In my classroom this will help solve the noise problem we have when working on these reading and math online programs. Additionally, it will help my students complete the required 100 minutes of lessons each week that they are required to do.
