This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine how much more comfortable it will be for my students to sit around me on a colorful rug while they intently listen to stories I read to them. Without this wonderful classroom rug, my students will need to continue to sit at the desks in chairs which are not so comfortable.

The students I teach attend a bilingual inner-city school.

The children are exceptionally eager to learn. They especially love Reading and the time spent when I read aloud to them. The students are culturally diverse. Their backgrounds are Hispanic, African-American and the rest are of many different ethnic backgrounds. Many of these children come to school daily even though their families face many struggles which one could hardly imagine dealing with on a daily basis.

My Project

The classroom rug will be such a bright addition to my classroom. The rug also relates to social studies since it has the outlines of the continents of the world on it. It will make small group or story time more comfortable for my students. I plan to be able to use it with small groups, the whole class and it will also be an area where individual students may go to when reading independently. This area will be a focal point of the classroom making the room a more homelike place to enjoy a good book or two.

This classroom rug will be a place where my students can relax a bit with a good book.

It will help and encourage my students who do shy away from reading to curl up with an interesting book. They can sit on this "magic carpet" and through books travel to faraway places. Please help make rug a reality for my students.
