Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Think about coming into a 1st Grade classroom with students who have varied ethnic backgrounds and whose primary language is not English. These students often need extra support for learning a new language - English! These new 1st Graders have gone through a lot even though most were home learning. I can't wait the biggest smiles on their faces no matter what this past year has done. Every day, I teach my students the English language, as well as the Next Generation Science Standards.

Many of my students do not have English language support at home.

I immerse them in the English language and help them become successful. My school prides itself on being able to bring students together for creative endeavors. With help from donors, we've already been able to fund multiple successful and engaging projects.

My Project

In my school, most of the kindergarteners were learning at home. In fact, about 70% of them were learning at home and now they have to come into a school building that they have never stepped foot in. I can only imagine what kind of feelings they will be going through. For most of them, it will be our first time together in 1st grade and for others they will be happy to see me again. This will also be my first time stepping into a 1st grade classroom as I was teaching kindergarten for 7 years. In order to help them transition and feel like they belong, I would love for my students to have special book baggies. These book baggies will help them see what they have inside, won't fall apart (we usually use Ziploc bags), and will make them feel even more special. The index card holders will help holding the Book Shopping Card when it is each child's day of the week to switch books. It will be easily read and won't get lost. I am using all of my knowledge from kindergarten to make 1st grade even more exciting.

Please help us receive book baggies that won't fall apart and will keep us organized.

I am excited to see what this year brings for us.
