My Project

There is only so much time that a kid gets to be in an environment where adventure, enjoyment and fun with friends is a daily routine. Kids need that time for play to be able to grow and foster communication skills. Their passions also need to be represented in the classroom. The items that I picked out were purposefully chosen based on my intricate knowledge of my twelve students.

Basketball teaches teamwork, discipline and resilience.

The basketball hoop will go on the door in my class. Students will have an opportunity to play basketball as a positive incentive when they have earned four points spelling the word MOVE. This will act as a tool to expose them to the sport of basketball so that perhaps they might join the third grade basketball team.

Skateboarding teaches balance, coordination and resilience. My students will be able to paint the skateboard different colors. It will act as the classes classroom decoration. Students will use creativity and teamwork to create this one piece. One of my favorite students skateboards regularly so this artwork will also remind him of his favorite hobby.

Many of my students regularly tell me that as a special treat they got to go to Get Air. By having a trampoline in the classroom I plan on allowing all students to have the experience to jump. This trampoline will work as positive reinforcement as when a child gets their tenth star they will have five minutes to jump.

By exposing our children/students to different passions and ways to enjoy the world we increase their opportunity. We also boost their self esteem. Not to mention it these activities keep students off of screens.
