My Students

Yearly, I teach two percussion ensemble classes with a total of 25 students, and then 3 steel drums classes with a total of 60-70 students. The steel drum ensemble has students at a variety of different levels, some who have played steel drums for 3 years, others who have never played a musical instrument. The percussion ensemble classes have highly skilled students that work on advanced techniques and repertoire fit to serve them should they continue studying percussion in college. The students are extremely eager to learn, and there is a tangible feeling of momentum in all the classes. After a successful first 3 years, the students are beginning to understand what they are musically capable of!

My Project

"The tape does not lie" has been a mantra for aspiring and professional musicians for decades. Our school has worked very diligently to provide private lessons for as many students in my percussion class as possible. We are ready to up our game with some recording and sound equipment, so that our lesson teacher can send kids home with full recordings of their lessons!

I have also listed a speaker for the two electronic drum kits we have set up (the speaker will also act as a mixer, allowing the teacher to play a metronome and backtracks while also amplifying two drum kits!)

The board and staff magnets will help our teacher neatly illustrate concepts that students may be confused by. Having two simultaneous classes with pull out sessions (private lessons) makes for an environment where we can help students at any level!
