Help me give my students less anxiety and fidgeting as we work on focusing and finding ways to regain self-regulation. I have used LEGOS, and fidget tools to stimulate creativity and work through solution-focused strategies.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My high school students are resilient. They must attend school in the poorest congressional district in the Bronx, which comes with challenges. Getting to school can build anxiety, overcoming high crime, unsafe conditions during their commute, seeing the homeless, and the unsanitary conditions in the neighborhood.
That doesn't even address the lack of educational disparity that special education students have endured and the issue in their family dynamic they may be dealing with.
These students need a minute to catch their breath. With fun tools like Lego's, fidget tools, and calm strips that can help them be creative and release stress. This will allow them to focus on how to get the most out of the academic enrichment they are offered.
Please give the students that I work with a chance to decompress and learn to increase their skill levels in the areas of focus, self-discovery, and self-regulation.
