My Students

My fifth grade students read Leonardo's Horse by Jean Fritz in their English/Language Arts classrooms. It is part of their Reading Street series. They would appreciate the chance to be engaged further in this story by learning more about da Vinci and creating a sculpture of their own.

These kids love art!

They really love to draw and paint. In fact, those are the two things with which they are most comfortable. I want to push them to the next level as young artists by engaging them in sculpture making. The majority of my students do not have access to art supplies at home.

My Project

We will read and study Leonardo da Vinci in art after they have read the Fritz story in their classrooms. They will develop a plan for creating their own sculpture. They will use wire and tape that we already have to form a sculpture. They will use the plaster wrap from this proposal to create a smooth surface for the sculpture. They will also paint the sculptures using the brushes from this proposal and paint that has been given to us from various other sources.. Finally, they will use our classroom iPads to create a stop motion video of with their sculptures. They will create the videos with partners. They will be able to take their sculptures home to keep at the end of the project.

This project will make a difference because without it we won't have all of the supplies we need to create this artwork.

We have some supplies that we can use for this. However, without these few other supplies, we won't be able to create the sculptures. This project will not only enhance my student's art experience, but also engage them further in their language arts class.
