My Students

I am currently an interventionist and STEAM Lab teacher at an amazing elementary school. The STEAM lab will serve students in Pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade. They will have an opportunity to visit the lab for STEAM challenges multiple times a month.

I teach at a low socioeconomic school, where 88% of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch.

It is very important for my students to have hands-on materials to enrich their learning experience. Their attention spans are not meant to sit on a rug and listen to a lecture. The best way for students to learn is to have interaction with their subject and to get involved. The children get so excited and are ready to learn when they have opportunities for hands-on activities.

My Project

My school is a STEAM Innitiative school. We are trying to grow the STEAM culture throughout the school. I am one of the teachers who runs the STEAM Lab. We are trying to make STEAM challenges more accessible for our students in their classrooms. The best way to make these lessons accessible is to integrate them into other subject areas.

I want to have "Literacy Lego to Go" bins where teachers have access to lessons that cover literacy standards through a picture book and corresponding STEAM challenge!

Teachers would be able to check out the bins and bring the STEAM fun back to their classrooms. I am requesting 25 different picture books to start the Lego to Go bins. Each bin will contain the literature (1-2 books), STEAM challenge lesson plan, Legos, and other challenge materials. I hope that having lessons that cover a variety of subject standards, teachers will be excited to integrate the ready to go STEAM lessons into their literacy block.

The books will also be used for a variety of lessons in the STEAM Lab. We will use them with Legos and other materials to challenge our students in grades Pre-K through fifth grade to complete STEAM challenegs. These books will be used with all grade levels for years to come!
