This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are imaginative eight and nine year olds fascinated by building and creating. They like to design and execute creative projects. We are starting a unit on innovation and engineering and need tools in order to make our dreams come true! Help us get Lego Robotics kits!

Our school is a progressive public school in the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York.

The entire school is dual language and inclusive. Our students have a wide range of talents and many different learning styles that we celebrate! We are committed to social justice and racial equality. Our student body reflects the socio-economic, language and racial diversity that is present in New York City.

My Project

We will use the Lego materials as part of an engineering and innovation unit of study. The students will learn how to make simple machines and use coding software to operate the machines. They will then use this knowledge to create their own simple machines which we will display in an Innovation Science Fair at the end of the year.

Students will also have the opportunity to work with new materials.

The materials will allow the students to learn how to code, create simple machines and test their ideas about engineering.
