My Students

People often ask me why I commute so far away to teach when I could work in a much more affluent community closer to where I live. The simple answer is because I have never been a happier teacher than when I'm with my students. They make me smile, laugh, sing and dance, and challenge me every day.

There are five different primary languages in my homeroom this year.

The entire district receives free breakfast and lunch due to high poverty levels and there's no where else I'd rather be.

My Project

In our class, we value creativity and engineering. One of the best ways we like to achieve these goals is through the use of LEGO bricks. Being a teacher at a STEM school pushes you to do everything that you can to provide your kids with all of the 21st century skills that you can so they will be ready to take the world by storm. But what if you don't have the materials to get them ready?

Students require hands-on activities to internalize all they are being taught, and with LEGO bricks, they are able to do so.

We will have the materials we need to complete various design challenges, as well as the opportunity to freely create and build. I love seeing their creative sides come out when they play with LEGO, and with the addition of the LEGO minifigures, I believe it will take their creativity to the next level.
