My Project

The LEGO train sets that I have requested are in addition to the basic LEGO coding train set that we already have in the classroom... who doesn't love more LEGO?! The LEGO Coding Express Train helps teach problem-solving skills, guides students on how to approach problems by breaking them into smaller steps, and teaches persistence by taking the fear out of making mistakes or failing.

Additional sets provide materials that more students can use together instead of sharing just one, and opens up their imagination to new themes of play.

Pre-kindergarteners are digital natives. They don't know a life without a phone or computer. Our students will need to not only understand technology, but also how to control and manipulate it. Post-COVID, we have become bound even more closely to technology with remote learning and endless Zoom meetings. This limits our children to being the audience rather than the director, and becomes a source of increasing frustration for children in a world that they cannot control. These coding sets allows young learners to take on the technological world, not only building what interests them, but also controlling it in whichever way they want to express it.

Working with LEGO is beneficial to all students including language learners and those with disabilities. To first learn by doing rather than speaking builds a base for language and conversational skills. It builds a base for taking initiative and increasing responsibility. It also builds a base for collaborative thinking and team-work. And it fits perfectly into our Transportation Unit within the Prekindergarten Curriculum! We will get to learn about vehicles and control them!
