My Project

My high school students need lessons that challenge their minds to design and build STEAM projects.

There are no extra funds for creative materials that allow their ideas to come to life.

I am setting goals with my class this year that will engage them in the learning process, where they can create and innovate their ideas from paper to building these designs with their hands.

Having a tangible product at the end is much more meaningful for the student and literally and figuratively builds excitement to learning.

Students will use the legos to build 3D models on the topics of chemistry including energy transfer, stoichiometry, chemical formulas, to name a few. For example in energy transfer, students will design a vehicle with the legos to power a small electrical motor that will move the vehicle forward. Another example the students will use the legos to model chemical reactions between reactants and products.

What makes these students special is that are gifted in the arts and yet struggle in science. With the goal of creating and designing models(arts) in science will build excitement with these students towards STEAM. The students I work with come from socioeconomic disadvantaged homes. In each of my chemistry classes I work with various levels of student disabilities, many who have difficulty grasping and understanding the complexity of chemistry.
