This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Leer is Poder! Me encantaria darle la oportunidad a mis estudiantes de leer libros con sus familias en su lenguaje nativo. I would love for my students to have the opportunity to read books with their families in their native language.

I am a bilingual kindergarten teacher in the south Bronx, NYC.

I currently have a classroom of 22 students who are all native Spanish speakers. For several of my students, this is their first classroom experience! I work in district 7, which is one of the lowest performing district in the Bronx. Most of my students come from immigrant families who are illiterate.

My Project

Every year we encounter a challenge to find resources in their native language and we end up printing paper books in black and white for students to take home. This year I would love to gather Spanish books so that students have the opportunity to take home books with vibrant color and illustrations in their native language to read with their families.

By helping fund this project, you are helping every child in my classroom to have access to books in their native language.

These students will be reading many of these books independently by the end of the year! They will also get to enjoy listening to many of these books in their native language because the books include a CD!! Leer es PODER!
