Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Our Student population in my school is 92.5% free or reduced lunches which means that most children come from low poverty homes. The acquisition of literacy and language skills is extremely important in my classroom. Many children enter school exhibiting limited expressive and receptive language skills. Thus, my program revolves around literacy activities to build success especially in the reading of good children's literature and story dictation. Parents are encouraged to participate in their children's education. I try to provide a variety of learning activities that are relevant to the culture of the children I teach. By incorporating a "Lending Library" in the children's Native Language, families can read in the home environment. I want them to share and experience the pleasure of reading together. We need 25 Spanish versions of Popular Preschool Books for a Lending Library for Preschool Parents who only speak Spanish. Active participation in the "Lending Library" will help a parent attain a feeling of importance in their child's education. Never, underestimate the positive effect that home and school working together can have on the way young children feel about themselves. It would be a tremendous gift for my children and their families and open a door for success in their future.
