My Project

I am an elementary teacher in a low-income, high-poverty school district. I have a class of wonderful first graders who are English language learners, special education students, and general education students who come from various ethnic backgrounds.

Despite the many challenges my students face, my students come to school eager to learn and strive to do better.

The closures of schools across the country during the pandemic made a “widening gap” between low- and high-income students. School closures prompted by the Coronavirus pandemic have sent families scrambling for solutions—balancing their work schedules with childcare and their children's needs for social stimulation and learning. As a result, many of my students are far behind where they should be academically.

It may not seem like much but pencils, yes just pencils, can help my classroom run a lot smoother.
