Help Ms. Ofstie

I teach 9th-12th grade English Language Development (ELD) in a poor area of Southern California. My students are level 2 (low intermediate) English language learners mainly from China, Vietnam, and Mexico.

My students are extremely motivated and a real pleasure to teach. They really want to learn English, and in turn I want to be the best teacher for them. However, my school lacks funding for supplies, and I spend lots of money out-of-pocket buying things for my students.

I would love each student to have a 9"x12" individual dry erase white board to use in class. We will also need dry erase markers, erasers, and ziploc bags in which to store them. Individual white boards are a fun and effective way to assess student learning. Students can write the answers to questions I ask them and hold them up, so I can instantaneously see who understands the concepts and who needs extra help. They can be used to help my students improve their spelling, grammar, reading comprehension, and many other skills that will help them in high school and also beyond in college. Having students write down answers on a white board is much more effective than having students shout out answers. This way, I can clearly see an answer from each and every student, and students who need extra help won't blend into the background.
