Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a teacher in a Title one school in a specialized district that teaches students with a wide range of disabilities. My students are a wonderful group of 3rd graders who have Autism. Children with Autism require repetition and motivation when they are learning. My students need to be taught all concepts multiple times and in various ways in order for them to be successful. My students need to hear sounds, touch materials, see images and engage with the content. Welcoming students back into the classroom and providing them the supports they need, both socially and academically are very important. My students need to practice learned skills daily to prevent regression, with materials that peak their interest and are engaging.

I have high expectations for my students as we transition back to in person learning I am confident that they will meet all their goals.

My Project

During the pandemic our school was closed numerous times. Due to an unfortunate incident our only desk top computer was broken. I used this computer to provide my students with interactive and digital content they were able to complete. Now that we are back in the building and transitioning to pre-pandemic learning, given the restrictions, I want to provide my students with 8 tablets, which they will use individually during small group learning through out the school year.

My students will use tablets during small group and independent time to access educational websites and apps.

These tablets will help my non verbal students gain vocabulary while they enjoy stories and songs.
