My Students

My first grade students are full of energy and ready to learn. They need creative and imaginative ways to keep them actively engaged in the task at hand. Being able to use Play-doh to make letters, numbers, and spelling words will keep them working, learning and having fun at the same time.

I teach at a low income school and many of my students do not have the skills they need to be successful in school.

More than 60% of our students receive free and reduced price lunches. My students come to school excited and ready for fun. They need to be taught in an engaging, hands-on way.

My Project

Students move through stations as they work on guided reading and math in my classroom. A station with Play-doh and tools to build numbers, addition or subtraction sentences, spelling words, or letters will give them a fun and creative way to learn and stay engaged. As students build with Play-doh they have conversations about what they are making. This conversation builds speaking skills, vocabulary and social skills for my students. This conversation is also great for my ELL students.

Play-doh improves fine motor skills which will in turn improve pencil grip.

It is calming and relieves stress as students roll and squish it. It will provide the students with a hands-on fun way to learn.
