My Students

I work in a public K-8 STEM school in 5th grade. I cycle through 3 classes of kids that are amazing wonderers! Many of the kids have been with each other since the school opened 3 years ago and have formed great bonds with each other. They have a vast background in STEM education and I am constantly trying to find creative ways to grow their learning even further.

They ask questions, find answers, and love being challenged!

As 5th graders, we really work on building the skills to be successful in their middle school classes. One such skill is reading to find answers.

My Project

As adults, we learn new things by reading about them. As teachers, we want to prepare our kids for the world beyond the classroom. I want to teach my students that reading can be fun and helpful. Through this project, I can bring literacy in to the classroom to engage my students in science and engineering. Reading picture books to my students will be a great, new way for the science classroom to introduce topics to students.

One thing students don't expect in their science classroom, is their teacher to read to them.

I have selected STEM focused books to tie in my science and engineering curriculum.
