Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach a preschool collaborative classroom. I have fourteen typically developing students and ten students with special needs: Autistic and Speech Language Impairments. My school is located in a low income community majority are Latinos from immigrant families and first generation. Most of my students are English Language Learners. My students are energetic, curious, lovable, and eager to learn. My students enjoy music, books, building, art and learning through play. However, my program lacks many diverse and instructional tools and materials to engage in their specific needs.
My Project
Kinetic sand will help my students with special needs adapt to our new school environment, as they will need to stay six feet apart. Kinetic sand will help make learning easier with hands on activities. Students will be able to find letters or numbers inside the sand. Students will also work on thier fine motor skills as they massage, tear, dig, cut and mold.
Kinetic sand will help students relax and enjoy themselves during on hands learning .
My students all have diverse learning needs but kinetic sand is the one thing that all students enjoy. Implementing kinetic sand in math or literacy will help students stay engaged and excited to participate in learning. Kinetic sands' tactile stimuli helps to sooth most students with special needs.
