Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is an inner-city middle school, where supplies are extremely difficult to obtain. The students that I teach work extremely hard and take their learning very seriously. They thrive in math, as they are honors classes. It would be nice to be able to supply them with materials they need to make custom interactive math notebooks, so they can take ownership of their learning. They would use their notebooks to glue in diagrams and foldables. In addition, this would provide them with the organizational skills they will need to continue thriving in high school.

My Project

Studies show that color affects the brain. It can have an influence on our attention and retention of memory. Color is an integral part of our lives and can positively affect our learning.

I would like to use color paper in my classroom for daily math lessons, in order to help my students get organized, retain information and make learning fun.

With the use of colored paper, I can create fun math foldables for their notebooks. I can have my students color code and categorize math vocabulary, formulas, and graphic organizers according to each unit that they are studying. My students are given so many handouts on white paper, however, if it is printed on colored paper, they will know that the notes are more important and can refer back to them quickly, as these notes will stand out.
