My Students

At the end of the school year I want my students to be able to decode unfamiliar words by using the skills that I have taught them. My biggest challenge on getting them there is reinforcing the skills throughout the school year.

My students are eager to learn but unfortunately some of the students come to me with little background knowledge of the skills that I am teaching.

My school is a hard working environment striving to get every student on grade level for reading. This is a challenge due to the lack of resources that are available to us. The resources that I am asking for are phonics and math games that my students can reinforce the skills that I am going to be teaching them. I also asked for a book that I want to expose my students to during the end of the day read aloud.

My Project

With the resources that I am requesting, I will be able to work with a group of students on a specific skill while other groups of students work together reinforcing skills that have been taught. With these resources, my students will be able to use them throughout the school year so that they master the skill and are able to use them while reading independently. Most of the games that I requested are phonics based games as well as math games. One thing that I have noticed over the years of teaching is that phonics is not being taught like it has in past years. Without knowing the basic phonics skills it is very hard to decode unfamiliar words, which then leads to unable to understand what you are reading. I also asked for a book that I want to expose my students to during the end of the day read aloud. This book was recommended to me by another teacher stating that their students enjoyed the book. We also use post its with almost every activity and that can get extremely costly.

This donation will improve my classroom and change my students' lives by allowing them to apply skills that I have taught through play.

The school day is very fast paced and with the games and supplies that I requested, my students will be able to master the strategies through interacting with their peers.
