Kindergarten is tough. It is even more so when you're learning a new language and experiencing school in America for the first time!
Twenty-two students from the US, Nigeria, Mexico, and Puerto Rico make for a diverse mix of bright personalities in Room 23!
In this low-income urban school, we aren't afraid to try new things and challenge ourselves academically! Our school serves over 800 kids, 76% of whom qualify for free and reduced lunch. My students inspire me daily with their confidence and bravery in tackling kindergarten!
I am requesting a document camera in order to make whole group instruction engaging and accessible for my students. Modeling "how to" procedures and success criteria is one way we ensure that our students are completing high quality work independently. Our large class size limits our ability to engage fully in modeling and guided practice: we can't see!
The document camera will allow me to model high-quality work, allow students to share and display their creations, and experience leveled texts as a whole group.
This extra visual support will especially aid my ESL students who need support in understanding, reading, and writing in English!
With a document camera, we will be able to complete work together as a class, read and analyze leveled readers, proudly show off our high quality work to our peers, and engage fully in whole group instruction.
