My Students

I have the pleasure of working with 26 second grade students, who are striving for greatness. My students are predominately Spanish, African American and Muslim, many of them are currently English Language Learners. I work with children who are trying to master the language as well as all other academic requirements of a second grader.

My students are awesome and deserve to have access to all they need to continue growing as learners!

They come from a lower income neighborhood, with parents who want the best for them, but they often do not speak the language. Supplies and support are limited for these hard working kids, who need it the most.

My Project

The use of whiteboards is almost a daily activity in my classroom, especially in math. Using the workshop model in math, students come to the rug with whiteboards for guided practice and to record modeled strategies. The whiteboards allow me to see exactly what they are doing, as well as provide an easy place for them to show and share their work. I want my students to have the ability to use a whiteboard at home to also share what is being learned with me.

In this new way of learning we are about to embark on I want parents and students to have as many of the necessary tools accessible to them for success.

The use of these materials will allow them to achieve the same success at home as they do in school. I also want them to feel safe when and if they come back to my classroom. The materials requested will allow them to safely store or use materials in a classroom setting.
