My Students

"It's the little details that are vital. Little things make big things happen." - John Wooden

I work with a variety of students in special education with diagnoses ranging from autism to cerebral palsy.

They are all unique and special and each have their own special needs. My school has several classrooms which are equipped to meet the needs of our students from transitional kindergarten through 6th grade.

My Project

As an itinerant occupational therapist, I often get requests for "simple" fixes - how can we help these students in the classroom on a daily basis when you aren't here. As previously stated - sometimes the littlest things make the biggest difference. Often times, providing the right materials such as little pencils and flip crayons from the Handwriting without Tears program is all we need! Also, we've tried to incorporate the program into our general education transitional kindergarten and kindergarten classrooms in order to start early with promoting the right developmental patterns. Ultimately, providing the materials and strategies to the teachers is the BEST and most naturalistic way to help ALL of our students.

By providing class sets of both the pencils and the crayons, teachers will be able to utilize these materials on a daily basis with all students (even when the OT isn't there!) to promote developmentally appropriate grasping patterns.

It will help all of our students to progress with their fine and visual motor development simply by providing the right materials.
