Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Huddled together, giving each other support, these are some of the children in my preschool class as they get ready for graduation. It always amazes me to watch them grow and develop. I teach in a large New York City school. The children come from varied cultural and economic backgrounds. For most of my students, this is their first school experience. They are fearful upon entering the classroom for the first time. The growth academically, socially and emotionally that takes place by the end of the year in each child is astonishing!

They develop a sense of community and a love for learning.

They become cheerleaders for their classmates and themselves. Having developed a love for learning and a respect for others and their differences lay the foundation for the rest of their educational careers. While I am sad to see them go I am excited about the journey that each will be taking.

My Project

Preschool students are eager to learn and explore the world around them. Upon entering my class, I aspire to develop a classroom of thinkers not just mere memorizers of facts. Teaching children to learn how to learn should be the goal of every preschool classroom. Laying this foundation will enable them to be life long learners.

The Magnetic Pattern Blocks that I am asking for will encourage the children to be creative and develop reasoning skills that will provide a foundation for all future learning.

Not only are these activities thought provoking they are engaging. The children will work together to create masterpieces as they sort and build with the shapes. They will learn about magnets as they watch how the pieces repel and attract. The Pattern blocks are also translucent so they can be used on the light table. The pretend mail box will encourage the children to write and communicate with others. The Alphabet locks are great for fine motor development as well as encouraging the children to learn their letters. These engaging activities will create an environment of motivated preschool children who are learning to think and loving it.
