My second graders love being at school and in the classroom doing many of the activities that are planned throughout the day.
My students are in the Chinese Immersion program.
They learn English, reading and writing half of the day with me and math in Chinese the other half of the day with my Chinese speaking partner. They live in a middle-class neighborhood. My class is made up of diverse students, each with different learning abilities. Many of my students have siblings in our school and the parents are very involved with their education.
My Project
My students are working hard to master foundational reading skills. They are excited to practice their developing skills and enjoy reading books independently and with their classmates. They need more access to engaging books that connect to their phonics knowledge as well as their understanding of the world around them.
They feel so successful when they are able to read a book and show off their skills!
These books are just what my classroom needs to help students engage in decoding practice while learning about the world around them. Geodes books are accessible information-rich books. They will help my students to learn to read while they are reading to learn.
