Imagine walking into a classroom as a youngster and having to sit at a desk or table all day. It doesn't seem fun, engaging or beneficial does it? In my classroom, I am implementing leveled literacy centers which address all areas of early literacy skills and strategies to make students thrive!
My students include 22 vivacious kindergarteners who are very eager to learn all about letters, sounds, words and of course how to read!
They want nothing more than to practice their letter sounds and put them together to make words. It is so fulfilling to see them light up when they actually read a word for the first time!
Our school is in the 2nd largest urban school district in New Jersey. Over the past few years our budget for materials like the ones I am requesting have dwindled and now no longer exist. These materials will unlock the gift and magic of reading for my students.
My Project
My students will use these materials in differentiated literacy stations to build their knowledge of the alphabet, letter sounds, high frequency words and reading. These materials will improve my student's phonemic awareness and help them become more confident as readers by completing fun, hands-on, sensory literacy activities. The kinds of materials requested for this project include premade literacy games, write and wipe cards, sight word cards, word family puzzles, and many other manipulatives. I am also requesting supplied such as baskets, Ziploc bags and laminating pouches to make the center materials reusable for future students.
