This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are from a low socioeconomic background and have limited resources to use both in and out school. At the same time, my class is full of eager learners who enjoy experiencing new opportunities and using new technology in order to learn. Our school resources are limited and we are not provided with all necessary materials at all times because of the budget. These students are deserving of extra materials that are not provided by the school. Many of the materials and supplies needed for the classroom and students are bought by us, the teachers. Many of my students try very hard and are committed to their education; by donating to their cause it would help them to be successful learners.

My Project

Decodable books will help increase my student's literacy and language skills. They are proven to be successful texts. The Science of Reading research says that students need decodable text to practice applying the phonics skills they are learning. The skills in the text and centers are being explicitly and systematically taught. With these decodable readers and centers, students will be engaged and feel confident when reading on their own.

With these decodable books and centers, I can provide more engaging reading experiences that my students need to be successful readers.

While students are learning to read, it is crucial for them to have access to high quality, engaging texts and activities that they can actually read! I am just beginning to create a decodable library but my dream is to enough books and centers for all of my that cover all of the phonics skills taught k-2 so that all students have books they can read and engaging centers to practice the skills they are learning.

My students need decodable books and centers so they can practice effective reading strategies and become successful readers!
