Children learn best when learning is fun and engaging. I teach the 2nd grade at a low income Title 1 school in New York. We have a unique program at our school called "Special Time". Special Time is a 45 minute period where all students participate in various activities depending upon their educational needs. Some student's participate in enrichment clubs such as Guitar Club, Chorus, Art Club, Photography Club and various others. Other students receive much needed remedial help through the use of educational games. I teach a remedial group during Special Time.

Often the children in the remedial program feel that they are not doing the "fun" things that the students in the clubs are. It is my goal to provide them with a very special "Special Time" experience. I use the games that come with our math and word study programs but they do not provide enough variety or pizazz. Furthermore, the children already use them in their homeroom classes and are ready for something new and exciting!

The educational games that I am requesting will meet their educational needs and their need to feel that they are doing something fun and different during Special Time. The games provide practice in mathematics and language arts. Some of them have a fun and exciting Bingo or Tic Tac Toe format! I have reviewed the games personally and know they are well made, educationally sound, engaging and colorful too!
