My Project

In my 7th and 10th-grade classrooms, students bring a wide range of skills, interests, and challenges. To foster engagement, collaboration, and deeper learning, we are seeking funding for literacy-based games, including literary trivia, magnetic poetry, and vocabulary development games, as well as Pokémon cards to support social-emotional learning (SEL).

Games provide a dynamic way to build literacy skills and social connections.

Literary trivia and vocabulary games will reinforce key reading and writing concepts while making learning interactive. Magnetic poetry will encourage creative expression, helping students experiment with language in a low-stakes, playful way. Pokémon cards will serve as a tool for SEL, allowing students to trade, discuss, and strategize in ways that build communication skills, patience, and positive peer interactions. These resources will help students who may struggle with traditional learning methods by providing hands-on, student-centered engagement.

My primary goal is to increase student engagement with literacy while fostering critical thinking, creativity, and social-emotional well-being. By integrating these games into our classroom routine, I want to improve vocabulary retention and comprehension through play; encourage reluctant writers to experiment with words in a fun, low-pressure setting; strengthen peer relationships through collaborative and competitive gameplay; support students' emotional growth by using Pokémon cards to facilitate discussions about perseverance, strategy, and positive interactions.

Our students are curious, diverse, and eager to learn in ways that feel relevant and meaningful to them. Many thrive when given opportunities for interactive and game-based learning rather than traditional lecture-based instruction. They are creative thinkers who benefit from hands-on experiences, and they appreciate opportunities to build relationships through shared activities. By providing engaging literacy tools and SEL-supportive resources, we can nurture their love for learning while equipping them with skills that extend beyond the classroom.
