Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend an elementary school in the Lennox School District. They come from low-income, nonaffluent communities. There is a significant financial gap that is as apparent as the education gap between my students and more affluent students continues to increase. They are happy and eager learners and are excited to arrive at school to receive the love and support from their learning community. My students are special to me because they enjoy learning and are dedicated to their education.

My Project

In fourth grade, math skills are foundational and it is imperative that students understand and practice the strategies that will allow them to successfully solve math problems. In the classroom, whiteboards are a great way for students to not only practice their math skills and strategies, but also provides them a different learning approach to keep them engaged in learning and learn to enjoy math. My students love using whiteboards in the classroom to practice skills such as multiplication and division, place value, and classifying quadrilaterals and triangles. They look forward to using the whiteboards during instruction to practice their math skills and strategies in a creative and fun way.
