My Project

These autistic students are learning how to become independent with living skills. They need practice with everything from cooking to cleaning to leisure skills.

With these items they will understand how to care for themselves and hopefully learn important job skills for the future.

They will learn how to work within a kitchen both to care for themselves and to hopefully prepare for a job in the food service industry.

We will go shopping and bring back the food we buy to make recipes in our classroom. With these items we can identify where to unpack our foods (a fridge vs a pantry) and use the microwave to help us cook. We will be able to use placemats and learn how to set the table. We will also be able to work with nutrition and create a healthy meal using the MyPlate guide.

They will learn how to clean up after themselves and also around the house, possibly preparing themselves for a job in the field of maintenance.

They will learn leisure skills for down time -- they say that for people with autism work is fun and play is work. These games will help them work on social skills and stay entertained.

They will learn important life skills that will help them become independent and enjoy a more meaningful life in the future.
