My 5-6 year old students come to school with basic computer skills. My students need to learn basic coding skills so they will be prepared to enter an advanced technology job market. I want to teach my students logic and problem solving skills by using robots. Currently I have limited resources.
I teach 30 eager first grade students who enjoy learning how to read, write, and do math.
Our wonderful school is located in sunny Southern California. My students range from gifted and talented to below grade level. We are proud to be a Nationally Recognized School of Excellence and have won many prestigious awards. Since we are not a Title I school, funding extra projects is very difficult.
My Project
I am requesting two Dash robots, 4 Building Brick Connectors, 2 Accessory Packs, 2 Xylophones, and 2 Ball Launchers to introduce basic coding skills, build beginning logic skills, introduce problem-solving skills, and to prepare my student's for future careers which require teamwork and collaboration. Students in first grade love music. By programming Dash via our iPad, students can make music with the xylophone I am requesting. My class would also practice number line computation using our new robot. The robot can light up when they land on the correct number on our giant floor number line.
If you choose to donate to our coding project, students will begin to learn the language of computers.
As technology advances, companies will need to hire employees that possess coding skills. Since I do not know how to code myself, I will be learning alongside my students. I plan on integrating our coding lessons into our common core math and science curriculum. Students will use our classroom iPad to give commands to the robots using simple codes. Ready! Set!
