Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a high school science teacher at The School of Holistic and Academic Wellness at Audrey W. Clark, a public school in Long Branch, New Jersey. Our school is for students from grades K-12 who have needs that are better met in a smaller, more alternative setting. The students are resilient learners who are able to overcome challenges every day with staff supporting their social-emotional growth while providing them with meaningful academic experiences. One of the best ways to engage them in learning is through hands-on, interactive activities that spark curiosity and build real-world skills.

I’m seeking support to bring screen-free coding robots and Scratch coding materials to all of our K-12 students.

These resources will introduce them to coding in a way that is accessible, engaging, and developmentally appropriate for all grade levels. By learning to code, my students will develop problem-solving skills, perseverance, creativity, and confidence—skills they will use throughout their lives.

Many of my students struggle with traditional learning methods, but coding provides an opportunity for them to succeed in a structured, supportive, and exciting way. Screen-free coding robots will allow younger students and those who benefit from hands-on learning to build foundational coding skills without needing a computer. Meanwhile, Scratch will provide older students with a platform to explore digital storytelling, game design, and computational thinking in a fun and interactive way.

My goal is to make coding accessible to every student in our school, regardless of their learning differences or past experiences with technology. These materials will not only teach them how to code but will also foster critical thinking, collaboration, and resilience—key skills that will serve them well in school and beyond.

With your help, my students can experience the joy and empowerment of learning to code. Thank you for supporting their futures!
