Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We live in a world that is highly reliant on technology and this technology is growing exponentially. My students need Chromebook computers to use as tools for learning, performing research, practicing skills, producing quality work, and becoming technologically literate.

Our school is a wonderful and cohesive community of students, parents, and staff.

Sixty-two percent of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch and approximately 33% of our students are English language learners. I teach intensive intervention language arts to 4th and 5th grade students who are two or more years below grade level. Although my students struggle with reading and writing, they are curious, hardworking, and love to read and learn! Of my 25 students, 11 are English learners. Many of my students come from low-income homes. Some of the families do not own computers and many do not have access to the Internet. The staff, students, parents, and I are all working hard to make sure these wonderful students reach their full potential.

My Project

The Chromebook computers will help my students develop foundational knowledge of technology. They will learn to use technology, including how to use word processing programs, search the Internet, and print their work. In addition, they will use technology to learn, such as through conducting research for projects, performing WebQuests, and using online resources to practice academic skills.

Using the Chromebooks will allow my students to develop their technological knowledge.

This knowledge will allow them to be productive and prepare them for success in middle school, high school, college, and as adults in the work force. This is especially important for my students since many of them do not have access to these resources at home. They need to develop their technological skills at school so that they will be prepared to meet the demands of a technologically rich world.
