My Students

Remember when you were a child and how fun it was too get messy? Well, while you were playing in the sand or dirt, you were also getting valuable lessons that would be transferred to education.

My students are part of the head start program.

They range from age three to five. They are bright, fun, and excited learners. They come from a low economic neighborhood, but love school and all of its adventures. Our program gives students a chance to learn through play. Also, it gives them the structure and academic time to succeed in their future schooling.

My Project

Sand and water play give young children a chance to practice math, language, social, and fine motor skills through their senses. They may use their imaginations freely without fear of making mistakes. This helps build their self-esteem so that they are more confident in their problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Currently our sand/water table is broken. It is not able to hold anything without it leaking out. Also, new sand and educational games would be great addition to add to this center. Any donations would be greatly appreciated by my self and especially my students.

Young children need the opportunity to explore their environment in a nurturing and open way.

When learning on their own they gain a sense of control on their own experience. Children are very tactile and gain a lot of exposure through their senses. This is an important element in the preschool classroom. I hope you will see this and contribute to our goal.
