My Students

Imagine doing projects in class, yet not being able to print the necessary items for your projects because the printer either doesn't work half the time, or you can only print in black and white. Accessing learning through audio is also very essential. What good are visuals without audio?

My class is composed of 5th grade gifted and advanced students.

They are so motivated to learn, and enjoy learning through technology. Many don't have the opportunity to print assignments at home because they don't have a printer. They try to print using the classroom printer after-school whenever the printer is actually working. Since many of them are creative and competitive, they like to make their projects stand out, and therefore, enjoy printing in color. My students enjoy playing jeopardy as a class in different academic areas using our laptop. They also like watching science videos that support our standards, which creates the need for speakers in order to hear the content.

My Project

We have a few projects coming up. One of them will be for our Open House related to Social Studies. The other will be related to science. My students will be working on the projects in class. They can definitely benefit from having a working printer, which also prints in color to create beautiful projects. Our school has one color printer in the computer lab. Because of fund shortage, and laser cartridges costing too much, the school wants to save money, limiting printing in color as much as possible. My students will also benefit from being able to hear content via electronic materials using new speakers. I went through a box of speakers from the computer lab, and non worked properly. There was either static or extra sound, making it hard for us to hear and understand our science video.

Creativity and access to working technology is essential in today's society.

All students should have the opportunity to use technology that is in working condition to better their education in every possible way.
