My Students

Think about the amount of time you spend on a computer each day. Students in today's society are constantly stimulated by TV, computers, video games, and other technology. As a teacher, it can be difficult to engage students by simply standing in front of the room presenting information.

Students in my school district come from mostly low-income to lower-middle class families.

Our district is in a rural area, and students do not always have the best access to technology or opportunities to use it as a learning tool. When technology can be incorporated into lessons, students love it and are more attentive than at any other time of the day. Many of our students are struggling learners, and it can be difficult to gage whether or not they are truly understanding a topic.

My Project

The classroom responders will allow students to actively participate in classroom discussions. (These responders are like the "ask the audience" lifeline on Who Wants to be a Millionaire. Each member selects from given choices and responses are graphed for students to see.) All students are required to respond, and the teacher knows when all responses are submitted because the graph will show 100% response. If there is an overwhelming sense that students do not understand a topic, the teacher can go back and reteach. In a regular classroom setting, this doesn't always happen. Sometimes, students appear to understand the information, and only when a test is given, does the teacher realize that they didn't get it at all! The classroom responders can help teachers prevent this from occurring, thereby giving their students a better learning experience.

These resources are important because they can change a child's learning experience.

It can help teachers gage student needs and respond accordingly. Rather than wasting time on topics students already understand, teachers can focus on areas that students really need to learn. This can make learning more enjoyable and interactive for students. When learning is fun, students perform better. This is the goal of any classroom and school district!
