Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The cart is a group effort. My students, along with students in our grade band, with multiple disabilities, will work with special education teachers, speech therapist, occupational therapist, and physical therapist to make signs for the cart and mock price tags for each item. The chips, cookies, fidget toys requested in this project will allow us to fill the cart. The play money will be used to simulate a purchase. Using the play money students will be have to roleplay money transcations. All items will be free but they will use the play money as their currency. We will discuss what items were popular and which ones weren’t, and if any teachers or students have special requests we can honor. Students in the different classes will take turns operating the cart. They will wear the aprons as uniforms.

With the snack and activity cart, students will be able to participate in fun Friday activities with independence.

Shopping creates additional opportunities for students to work on functional goals, such as problem-solving, using correct grammar and articulation when speaking, identifying others’ emotions, and identifying others’ perspectives.
