Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As teachers in a low-income school district, we work with students who are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Many of them are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. Our class serves students with a range of disabilities: emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder and specific learning disabilities. We also have a large population of English Language Learners. This, however, does not slow them down.

Our students are full of energy and eager to learn.

My Project

Our students are full of energy and eager to learn. We are hopeful to motivate all of our learners to continue on a path toward academic success.

Effective literacy and math centers allow for student choice and have explicit and ongoing routines.

Centers promote student collaboration, facilitate student motivation, and provide targeted practice for students.

When learning something new or trying to reinforce a skill in math and literacy, it can be difficult to work with a large group of students. Using math and literacy centers is a great way to help students gain knowledge and feel more confident in our classroom. Making sure all of our students are getting an education that pushes them forward no matter where they start is the ultimate goal. When we use centers for learning, our classroom becomes more individualized and our students make academic gains.
