My Students

My students are so curious about the world. At 4 and 5 years old, they are constantly asking questions and want to know more. Their desire for knowledge is evident. In these fundamental years of development, they are learning to be readers and writers. This group has a passion for learning.

My students are highly motivated kindergarteners from West Harlem (Title 1 District) that have so much potential to succeed.

My class student population is diverse and is made up of multiple ethnicities, ENL (English as a New Language), IEP (Individualized Education Program) students. Diversity within our school is something we embrace and nurture.

In kindergarten, we teach children about empathy. This group is caring and they always strive to be better community members. They take an interest in each other. I want my students to always take pride in themselves and their learning materials.

My Project

My kindergarteners are learning the foundations of reading. They are building the skills and routines to become avid readers. Every day, children participate in a reading workshop where they read books with a partner to build their reading skills. Our classroom is tiny so the students need to sit on the carpet with their reading partners. Flexible seating will assist students in staying engaged during reading time.

Children learn best through interactive activities and through play.

There are many materials in my project for students to manipulate, and explore to help them learn best. With these materials, my students will continue to have fun as they learn to read and write.
