My Students

I teach a wonderful group of kindergarten and first graders who are all curious, kind, hard-working, and enthusiastic. From discussions about the Amazon Rain Forest to questions about our identity that help us connect to one another--it is clear that my students are eager to learn, discuss, ask questions and have fun.

In my classroom, we welcome student's ideas, questions, ways of expressing themselves, curiosities, and differences--we know that each and every one of us brings value to our community.

We are constantly working on making sure that we each feel heard, seen, and supported. We work on listening to one another, helping each other through challenges, and gaining independence. I strive to help provide my students with an environment that is safe and honest, encouraging and challenging, engaging and enlightening.

My Project

Throughout the week our students are going to have time to engage in choice time; a block of time where they will be able to put their creative minds to work. During this time, students will have an option of different centers--Blocks, LEGOs, Play-doh, Magnatiles, and watercolors/art materials--all of which have the goal of allowing students to work together, think freely, problem solve, and learn. Students can create vehicles out of LEGOs, a zoo out of blocks and toy animals, a rocket-ship out of Magnatiles and so much more!

The Magnatiles, watercolors, play-doh, tools, people/cars, and other additional materials will be added to our choice time centers to enhance the possibilities of what students can create.

At the beginning of the year, we will take time learning and exploring every center. We will learn how to use the materials safely and creatively. We will learn how to follow models and invent. We will learn how to put our ideas to the test, fail and try again. We will learn how to work together and how to listen to one another. We will have fun, laugh, and grow as students, friends, inventors, and architects.

We are eager to see what we can make happen with these new materials!
