I inspire third-graders to enjoy learning and become successful students. My students are a curious bunch and always want to engage with hands-on activities. As the world and education develop I want my students to be fully prepared to be adaptive, skilled, and ready to take on the ever-changing technological world. Even though the world is becoming more technologically advanced it is important to remember that students need books, that relate to them and expose them to new literature.
My students are excited to be able to learn in new ways and I want to do my best to prepare them for it.
All my students will be experiencing school in a new way, our district has become one to one on technology to help adapt to the change in education but we don't want to forget about traditional learning either. Both my students and I are eager to learn and inspire from each other!
My Project
This project will help provide students with books that are aligned with their interests to encourage them to enjoy reading! The current library that is in the classroom is limited and does not focus on the current interests of students, with this project students would be able to have access to the books during dedicated reading time in the classroom but also will be able to take the books home to encourage the students to read daily with themselves and with their families.
It is proven that students who are in similar economic status as my students have significantly less access to vocabulary.
“On average, professional parents spoke over 2,000 words per hour to their children, working-class parents spoke about 1,300, and welfare mothers spoke about 600. So by age 3, children of professionals had vocabularies that were nearly 50% greater than those of working-class children and twice as large as those of welfare children” (Rothstein, 2004). It is important that my students have access to books that expose them to new vocabulary, with diverse characters and social issues.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
