Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My first grade students may be young, but they are brimming with curiousity and the motivation to learn.

This year, despite distance learning, my students have been such a joy to teach.

They show up everyday wanting to learn, ready to engage in discussions and demonstrate their learning.

My Project

Teaching through this pandemic has taught me that students cannot learn if it is not motivating nor meaningful.

As we return to the classroom, I want to center my instruction around play and inquiry.

The potential for play based learning to promote student academic, social, and emotional growth is huge. As an educator I have felt incredibly pressured at times to center around the common core state standards, or other academic benchmarks. Therefore, I find it so absolutely necessary that I prioritize creating spaces that will support a love of learning rather than causing harm through pressure-cooker classrooms.

I would like to supply my classroom with the supplies and resources needed to create a classroom environment that will support play centers that honor students' interests.
