Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are very creative in their own special way. Each one has a creative way to communicate and to express their emotions, wants and needs. I teach a group of wonderful moderate-severe non-verbal to low-verbal children with autism at a Title I school in southern California.

Some of my students learn through tactile, some through auditory and others need both.

They love manipulating objects and keeping their hands busy. My students learn through repetition and structure.

My students come from low income families and often times are lacking the age appropriate materials they need to facilitate their communication skills.

My Project

The materials I chose for my students will help them learn basic academic skills such as their alphabet and numbers through play.

The Alpha-Bots, Build the Letter Activity Center, and Alphabet Learning Locks will boost my students' skills of learning how to recite the alphabet while learning new fine motor skills of building letters.

The Number-Bots, Number-Bots, Magnetic Math Rods, and Unlock It! Number Match will not only help my students learn how to match and how to count but also will help build those fine motor skills they need to hold a pencil.

I also am asking for color ink pads and sensory dough.

All items I chose are engaging and will help my students learn communication skills and eventually writing skills. My students need a multi-modal form of learning in order to build skills that will lead them to become independent individuals.
